Occupation can be defined as any activity that somebody must engage in because they want, need or are expected to do to get through life. Handwriting, riding a bike, and eating a meal are all examples of occupations. Some common occupations that children are engaged in include play, reading, and school work. Occupational Therapists work with people and their environments to achieve functional participation in every day life. In other words-they help people achieve what they need and want to do in order to live functional and meaningful lives. This can be done by assessing the task, the environment, and the individual’s strengths and weakness and adapting or modifying the activity or the environment to suit the individual’s needs.
